The road to D3 gifts follows this path:
01. Heart
- First you must understand who your donors are, what they are passionate about and what motivates them to give. Learn as much as you can about your donors!
- How do you connect to your donors’ hearts?
- Be authentic!
- Make your conversations about them.
- Ask the BrightDot magic question.
- Tell your story with heart and confidence.
- Regularly share stories in your office.
- Turn your board into story tellers.
02. Capacity
- Focus on donors who have High Wealth Capacity.
- Understand at least 90% of your donations will come from 10% of your donors.
- Understand brain science stimuli.
- Capacity is about assets not cash.
- Feeling wealthy is essential to giving.
03. Connection
- Discover the linkage to the development professional.
- Explore the dreams of the donor that can connect with institutions dreams.
- Understand that donors give to restricted request connected to their dreams.
- Learn to connect by using the donors vocabulary.
04. Ask
- The number one reason a prospect doesn’t give is that they were not asked.
- A fundraiser's biggest flaw is not asking for enough.
- Search hard for the natural ask partner.
- Be specific to the donors . Remember, you’re connecting to their hearts!
- Basic rule: Right time; right connected project; right amount; right asker.
05. Thank
- Stewardship is the most important step for future gifts.
