Rich is a career educator who has served at five small, private institutions as faculty member, department chair, chief academic officer and president. His role in BrightDot is to work with college and university leaders to help maximize the effectiveness of their teams so that their schools will move strategically toward fulfilling their missions and achieving their goals.
Rich brings to each new responsibility a collaborative, mentoring style that helps build strong and lasting relationships. He believes strongly that effective leaders must be grounded in their personal and institutional core values. Their leadership should be consistent and predictable, and their decisions should be made, and then communicated, with integrity and sensitivity for all concerned.
Rich’s wife, Charlotte, is also a career educator. They live at Smith Mountain Lake, VA, and are active in their community and church. They enjoy traveling, especially cruising, and they particularly enjoy visiting with their six grandchildren.
